Another much loved Elder passed away recently. This Mandala poster (below) was created in memory of the senior Women who have passed away and the empty seats they have left in our Women’s Group.
We farewelled Aunty L in the Church she loved in the Community that is her Heart and Soul.
“We celebrate the Women we have Known and the Love that They have Sown” is a black and white coloring in poster that gives a creative place for the loss and the grief to be expressed as well as the happy times and beautiful memories of the Mothers, Sisters, Aunties and Grandmothers who are no longer with us.
We miss you very much sisters Aunty I and Aunty L ….
Celebrating the Women we Known & the Love that They Have Sown...
The Centre Flower surrounded by Hearts represents the Love that is seeded by our Mothers.
The circle of seeds surrounding the Hearts symbolises how the love continues down the generations and is seeded each time we remember her and tell stories.
The Spiral Flowers remind us that the circle of life continues and the circle within the circle shows us that as Women, we are who we are because of the Women who have travelled before us…..
The three lined border is the River of life…ever flowing, sometimes fast, other times trickling…and the tears we cry when we are missing her, come from the waters where we are all One…..
Colouring the Mandala:
Red for the power of the Emotions
Blue for tranquility and peace of Mind
Green for nourishment and growth…
Orange and Yellow for the Sun and the Flowers.
Pink for the peaceful Heart
Purple for the colour of the sun as it sets on the horizon…

Over the years I played a selection of Oprahs programs in-house as they were a rich, rare source of discussion and reflection and glimpses into new possibilities and self reflection during the years I ran a personal development group at a shelter for homeless young mothers. Oprah’s personal story is one of over coming enormous obstacles and the impact of abuse, liberation from racism and the power of aligning with the Divinity of life, putting practical action to make the Dream come true. Many homeless Women I met over the years recognised their own potential through the Stories that Oprah brought onto the world stage…
For young Aboriginal Women at the shelter who grew up seeing only white faces on Australian television (sadly not much has changed), Oprah’s presence on national television was hugely significant.
Oprah Winfrey is surrounded by a co-creative team and it has taken many years of creativity and co-operation for her to have reached the stand alone level of influence and impact she has achieved. I saw how impactful and life changing her motivational shows were for homeless Women throughout the 90’s – especially the Remembering Your Spirit series . I admire her achievements enormously, though I am not so much interested in her programs around celebrity and make overs as I am about what people can do to create change and activate their fullest potential.
Women’s Well~Being has been the focus of my work from many years & most of the ProsperArty Mandalas and the personal development art that I create for workshops express the Goddess aspect of being a Woman. We would sit and colour the Mandalas whilst watching the Oprah Show ~ a very relaxed way to sit and absorb information.
For me, one of the most powerful off all internal keys to creating change is Creativity…returning to the free flowing, creative state we came into this world with & have often lost along the way….
In the Spirit of recognising a Woman of great influence, who manifests the very best of the Goddesses, Athena the Warrior who invokes change, Hestia who presides over home and heart’h, Persephone who transcended the subjugation of the underworld and Artemis who cares for young girls and sacred animals, I acknowledge Oprah Winfrey’s role that she has played in showing women that you can create and grow and bring about change in this world, irrespective of which of the skins you are in, where you have come from or what others will say can or can’t be done….
The Mandala below – which I have called “When Women Dream and Create Together” is created in the form of a Mandorla, the name of the shape created where two circles meet. See my “About me ” page for further explanation of the Mandorla.
I was inspired to create “When Women Dream and Create Together” when it was announced that Oprah Winfrey would be coming to Australia, in a jumbo jet with John Travolta in the pilot seat and dozens of over joyed audience members! How fitting that Oprah completes her 25 years of public television with a trip to the Dreamtime Country.
Australia is Aboriginal country with a history of profound culture and wisdom that goes back thousands of years prior to European’s arriving here just a very short time ago. It is a living culture with so much to teach the world about how to live in harmony with Nature and within our Self. It is still the very early days of recovery from the devastating impact of white-settlement and I sincerely hope this important Australian story to the world during her visit.
I chose the words at the centre of the Mandorla to reflect three things that are core to creating together : Love, Passion & Service.
“Service is rent paid for room on Earth”….
In my workshops we add colour to the black and white template to create our own ProsperArty posters for relaxation and reflection. For those who have not experienced working with the Mandala (circular) art form, I encourage you to give it a try! Place your Vision, / thoughts / feelings into the Circle and see what Magic will unfold….
When Women Dream and Create Together
Together the Women are united in their Vision.
They hold up the Pyramid, symbolising the Feminine Trinity:
~ Mother, Daughter, Divine Spirit ~
The Women rise from the Heart together.
Love is the powerful, unifying force that generates their Creations.

We are having the launch of the heART of the Apology exhibition on Wednesday.
There were 11 posters created during the Apology at Elder Park here in Adelaide in the ‘heART’ Space that we established as a way to give ordinary Australians, of all colour, culture and creed a place to express their thoughts and feelings in a way that was divorced from the political footballing and rhetoric that was flooding the media in the months….and years … leading up to the Apology.
There was sadness and there were years and there was joy…
My buddy Katrina has worked for justice for many years and like so many other Aboriginal Women. her courage and resilience in the face of systemic racism have been out standing.

The following link will take you to a very interesting program produced by the “All in the Mind” Radio National team.
I highly recommend it for anyone who is interested in understanding the challenges and opportunities for mainstream Australia to develop culutrally relevant partnerships and to enrich service delivery and inter-personal relationships with Aboriginal people….something that, historically white Australia has failed and the devastating impact of that failure resonates right across the country today.

From the page:
Mental health and other professionals inexperienced at working with Indigenous clients struggle with the limits of their cultural awareness, with language barriers and with the historical legacies of mistrust and misunderstanding. Cultural competency is more than sharing a joke. So what is it? And how can psychologists, doctors and others acquire it?

The Mother cows mooed and moaned when the ‘poddy’ calves were taken away, I understood that they were experiencing grief and heartache equal to that which humans experience.
‘DON’T TELL ME THAT WE ARE HIGHER THAN THE ANIMALS…’
When I see Mother Koala snoozing in the tree and clutch her baby as he stirs in his sleep
Don’t tell me that we are higher than the animals!
And when the Big Red Kangaroo rises to his full height and
blinks with long lashed eyes that survey each member of his tribe
Don’t tell me that we are higher than the Animals!
When the Dingo puppies frolic and roll and tumble
Whilst their Mother eyes me suspiciously and
nudges them back to their home made cave
Don’t tell me that we are higher than the Animals!
And don’t use terms like Pig in a way that intends to offend
Because I have witnessed their cleanly ways and
delighted in the way they roll and
grunt in ecstasy in the company of their own kin
And don’t say you fat cow in an insulting way when I have seen
a Mother Cow calling out to her calf whilst running behind the farmers ute
as he took her Baby away.
I saw the pain and the fear and the grief in the Mother and Babies eyes
Until she was left standing. Staring
as the ute disappeared down a dusty track
Her baby calling out to her in terror
and She responded with a deep and mournful cry
When I see the Red-Bellied black snake glide protectively over her young
I know that her nurturing is as equally important as our own.
Because she is serpent do we assume that she is
cold blooded and without feeling?
When I see Bilyara the Wedge Tail Eagle stand flightless
with shattered wing
Is his pain any less than yours or mine?
And that he will never ever again be King of the Sky
Doesn’t that pierce his heart and make his Soul cry?
Don’t tell me that we fly higher than the Animals!
When the Pelicans waddle and their fluffy off-spring follow
Is their day any less important than yours or mine?
When Rocky the Poodle (in his hand knitted winter coat)
runs circles around his owner, yapping with delight
Is his Love inferior to yours or mine?
Indeed His Love propels him to perform a dance of delight
Never taking his eyes from the elderly woman he adores.
When Minerva my Cat sends me a soundless image
that tells me she is being held hostage by Libby the Dog
Isn’t Her imagery more powerful than mine?
When I see a flock of sparrows gather around one of their babies
who has been skittled by a car
Is their chittering and nudging and fluttering and flittering
any less significant than a death to you or I?
When I see a Chimpanzee interned in a cramped cage in Bangkok
being subjected to the inane mimicry of tourists who prod him and call him names
Am I imagining the dull sheen of tears that long ago sealed over his eyes?
Don’t tell me that we are higher evolved than the Primates!
When Alice Walker speaks of Christmas as a time of the ritual killing
of sappling trees and the bludgeoning of Turkeys,
slaughtering of Lambs and
butchering of Pigs…
A time of gluttony and gorging and greed
Is she wrong?
Are we truly deserving of the Sacred task we have
to Honour Mother Earth and ALL Her Children
Those who fly, walk, swim, crawl and climb!
Don’t tell me! Don’t try to convince me
That we are higher than the Animals!

Happy Easter and time of rebirth and renewal everyone…
Please enjoy one of my very favourite songs by Pato Banton:
Click on “Life is a Miracle” on the player here:
Pato Bantons My Space
Life Is A Miracle
Artist: Pato Banton Lyrics
In the beginning was the word
and the word was with God.
And God said: “Let there be life”.
Life, oh life! Life is a miracle.
It’s a miracle every time a mother gives birth
tell me who can say how much a child is worth.
A miracle living on this planet earth
rotating to the rhythm of the universe.
More precious than the rarest stone
more valuable than silver or gold.
The essence is invisible
to the scientific mind it’s impossible.
Like the secret of the seed that grows into a tree
the starry galaxies remain a mystery.
Oceans and the seas the air we breathe.
God knows that I believe…
Life is a miracle.
As I turn one page of our history
I see so many great personalities.
Like Marcus Mosiah Garvey
And the great Bob Marley.
Malcom X with any means necesary
Martin Luther marching to victory.
Even Tupac Shakur
And the one Daddy Biggie.
Well they will always have a place in our memories.
And in time to come you wait and see
They will all get the gift of eternity.
God knows that I believe…
Life is a miracle.
Our heavenly father who art in paradise
We thank you Jah for the gift of life.
And though this world is filled with trouble and strife
In time to come it will be worth the price.
The journey of experience
By growing we secure our deliverance.
The phenomenon the prodigy
The marvel of an undiscovered destiny.
So let’s give thanks to our father above
For all of the wonderful things that he does.
Life is the ultimate gift of love.
God knows that I believe… Yes I do.
Life is a miracle. It’s true.
