Robert Masters, husband of Jean Houston, has passed away.

Posted by carolom on July 30, 2008

Sal and I have benefited greatly from Jean Houston’s work and are committed to the principles of Social Artistry. We first met at Jeans Mystery School event in 2001 and enjoyed many ‘Bob’ stories that were always peppered with humour and wit, that also revelaed Bobs many talents and his great mind.

We didn’t get to meet Bob but our thoughts are with him and Jean as they venture through the next stage of life’s ever unfolding Mysteries.

Bob passed away on July 27th 2008 leaving many great literary works and Foundation for Mind research studies in his wake.

Here is a copy of Bobs obituary published in the Oregon Mailtribune.

Obituary from the Mailtribune, Oregon

Robert Masters was the beloved husband of Jean Houston, Ph.D., with whom he co-founded and directed The Foundation for Mind Research.
The couple’s shared passion for charting, understanding, developing and teaching of Human and Extended Human Capacities fueled their lifelong adventure toward improving the quality of life for peoples of all ages, cultures and geographic locations.
Together, they were among the principal founders of the human potential movement.

Masters served in the Navy in WWII, mainly in the Pacific arena. He then joined his father, Colonel Masters, in duties regarding ordinance in the occupation of France and Germany. There he continued his student activities studying informally with Jean Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir. In Germany, he attended the University of Marburg and was one of the first to translate Heidegger’s Sein und Zeit into English.
Completing his degree at the University of Missouri, he taught philosophy for several years before becoming a newspaper editor, writing editorials for the Houston Post and then the Shreveport Times. In Louisiana he became a good friend of Elvis Presley.
He came to New York in 1962, where he became the editor of the Library of Sex Research for Julian Press and published eight books in the field of sexology and natural history which became classics in their field. It was in New York that he met Jean Houston and they were married in 1965.

Masters authored or co-authored more than 30 books and 100 papers and articles describing his researches into the varieties of human behavior and potentials. John Lennon wrote a song about one of the books he wrote with Jean Houston, Mind Games.

His works have been translated into many languages and he has taught and done research in Europe, Africa and Asia as well as the Americas.

Masters is recognized as a leading pioneer in consciousness research and the human potentials field. He has also published poetry, fiction, essays, literary and art criticism, book reviews, anthology contributions, and forewords and introductions to books by authors in many different fields.

Robert Masters conducted on-site investigations of states of consciousness in many different cultures and countries. He pioneered applications of altered states in education and psychotherapy, as well as in neural, sensory, and kinesthetic reeducation aimed at overcoming many different problems but especially at making possible a larger and more productive access to human potentials.

Robert Masters was the founder and was President Emeritus of the Association for the Masters Psychophysical Method, a group of hundreds of teachers trained and certified by him for the work he created in the field of psychophysical reeducation.

Along with Association members, Dr. Masters endeavored to establish centers for this work in cities across the U.S., where the intended focus addressed “older people.”

Prior to his passing, he was involved in related research and other work to delay the onset of “symptoms of aging” and improve the quality of life of older people.

In addition to ongoing work in psychophysical reeducation, altered states of consciousness and other areas long worked with in the context of human potentials (research, educational and other applications), Masters initiated experimental approaches to esoteric psychologies and spiritual disciplines and was particularly knowledgeable about ancient Egyptian psychospiritual practices.

Robert Masters is survived by his wife, Jean Houston. He will be missed not only by those close to him, but by his peers and the many students who benefited from his mentoring and who called him Papa Bob.

Dr. Marti Glenn and her husband, Ken Bruer, are establishing as a tribute the Robert Masters Scholarship Fund for students in somatic psychology at their Santa Barbara Graduate Institute, and

Ingalalla Falls south of Adelaide- A beautiful place on a wet and windy day…

Posted by carolom on July 21, 2008

My buddy Deanna and I were both a bit tired, a bit low on joi-de-vivre… we know that this kind of too-much-of-the-city tiredness needs very specific treatment!

It requires packing the picnic basket, spending hours amongst Nature with a cup of tea in china mugs, accompanied by a piece of apple-crumble cheesecake from the Yankalilla bakery…. taking time out of the city away from the mobile phones waves and relentless traffic….noise traffic, mobile phone traffic, people traffic and the news, news, news…

Nothing else will remedy what only Nature offers the weary 21st Century gals!….(;-)

Here is where we went…and if you look really closely you can see the Spirits of Nature all around…

Ingalalla Falls…nestled in between hilly country that is green and clean and lush….

Breathtaking is the canvas when the Sky Gods illuminate the heavens on a warm summers night…

Posted by carolom on May 6, 2008

I recently drove a western suburbs beach area as the sun was setting.

The sunset was dramatic. Cloud spirits appeared, dazzling streams of light…a big glowing orb landing on the horizon as the sun set.

Truly growing older could not possibly mean failing eye sight
……I feel like I am seeing things better than ever before…and EVERYwhere!

A New Batch of Warrior Women…Strong Mind and Peaceful Heart

Posted by carolom on April 7, 2007

Each week in my ART of Change ~ Law of AttrACTION program we make a piece of Art /Craft the embodies that weeks discussion…

As an artist and life coach I place a great deal of importance on the visual /auditory AND kinestic process of learning – Seeing, Hearing and Doing- CREATING …the way we learnt as young children in a visually rich, imaginative and engaging environment works for adults in ways that sitting passively with a white board and speaker does not engage with all of the preferred learning styles….

e.g. When looking at the “Poverty to Prosperity Consciousness” week we make a ProsperiTree:

When embarking on the journey to call on the “Warrior Woman Within” we create her as we discuss who She is…
They are made from a basic black and white template…

These are some of the new flock of Warrior Women that were birthed in a domestic violence outreach group that I had the privilege of facilitating over 5 weeks….

The headress symbolises the importance of developing Strong Thoughts forms and controlled Thinking
The Heart is the importance of connecting with Feelings but not solely driven by emotional responses to the world
And the wings demonstrate that when we are centred and balanced and understand the Power we have to create our Reality….we can fly like \never before…..

My wonderfully-creative Mother even made a couple of Warrior Women of her own…they now travel to workshops with me and inspire others with their creative gorgeousness….
You can see her with them here…….

Life is a Miracle!~ Beautiful Song to Listen to for Easter…

Pato Bantons My Space

Life Is A Miracle

Pato Banton
Artist: Pato Banton Lyrics

In the beginning was the word
and the word was with God.
And God said: “Let there be life”.

Life, oh life! Life is a miracle.

It’s a miracle every time a mother gives birth
tell me who can say how much a child is worth.
A miracle living on this planet earth
rotating to the rhythm of the universe.
Life!
More precious than the rarest stone
more valuable than silver or gold.
Life!
The essence is invisible
to the scientific mind it’s impossible.
Like the secret of the seed that grows into a tree
the starry galaxies remain a mystery.
Oceans and the seas the air we breathe.
God knows that I believe…
Life is a miracle.

As I turn one page of our history
I see so many great personalities.
Like Marcus Mosiah Garvey
Emperor Selassie
And the great Bob Marley.
Malcom X with any means necesary
Martin Luther marching to victory.
Mother Theresa
Princess Diana
Even Tupac Shakur
And the one Daddy Biggie.
Well they will always have a place in our memories.
And in time to come you wait and see
They will all get the gift of eternity.
God knows that I believe…
Life is a miracle.

Our heavenly father who art in paradise
We thank you Jah for the gift of life.
And though this world is filled with trouble and strife
In time to come it will be worth the price.
Life!
The journey of experience
By growing we secure our deliverance.
Life!
The phenomenon the prodigy
The marvel of an undiscovered destiny.
So let’s give thanks to our father above
For all of the wonderful things that he does.
Life is the ultimate gift of love.
God knows that I believe… Yes I do.
Life is a miracle. It’s true.

In Memory of the Big River Gums

Posted by carolom on March 16, 2007

Many years ago I worked in a beautiful old homestead that had been renovated to become a shelter for homeless teenagers…The House was set in several acres on land that was adjacent to a river and lushly populated with the magnificent Big River Gums that have huge green lungs for breathing the air clean along busy Waterloo Corner Road…..
This kind of setting was often the traditional gathering place in less complex times when the Land was still in the hands and hearts of the rightful custodians.

This is The House…

I left The House in the early 90’s and over the years it has undergone several incarnations…always remaining a place of service and community.
A few years ago I heard that ‘they cut down the Big River Gums’ and I decided I did not want to go back there to see the land bare of those magnificent trees that I loved for so many years…at night time I would hear them breathe in the wind, in the mornings their branches full of birds would wake up the residents with the calls of magpies and galahs and rainbow lorikeets…sometimes you could smell the euclayptus in the air and many a restless teenager found quiet time sitting under the huge branches that covered the front of the grounds.

I was in the region today and after many years of habitually ignoring the old road where The House is based…I decided to go back to the place that holds so many fond memories and images of Big Trees watching over the shelters everyday life…
I pulled into the property and realised that the tree culling had not been as extensive as I had envisioned…there is definitely a gaping gap in the area closest to The House but many of the trees on the peripheral remain…like this one….

I strolled around the property and was taken aback when I came upon the felled- bodies of the Big River Gums laying in a greying pile by the old olive grove….
It felt like I had come upon an elephants grave yard where the large bones were discarded to the elements and my sadness over the loss of these magnificent, story-laden Big River Gums was felt at a place hundreds of years back in time…

This is what I came across….

I sat for awhile and remembered the seasons and wind storms, the thunder and rains and long hot desert summers that these magnificent trees had grown through together. I remembered how I used to park my old volkswagon under the largest tree…ignoring the ‘careful of falling branches’ speak in favour or the shade and sense of always-protected-never-harmed by the Big Trees…
I wondered about the dozens of birds nests that appeared every spring and the possums habitat that disappeared in an instant…I wondered where all those restless teenagers are almost 20 years later….

Although I have never known the stories of the local Aboriginal people, I felt sure that the land by the river would have been a part of the life of the traditional owners because even amongst the car fumes and roads and buildings and traffic, the land retains a special vibration that is palpable.

As I sat reflecting on time and loss and death and rebirth and happy times and sad times, I noticed one of the remaining Trees watching me….listening to my thoughts and sharing in my loss….I felt the presence of the big River Gum, alive and vibrant, surrounded by the amputated trunks on the ground.

So clear was the presence of the Spirit of the Tree that his heavy brow, thick lips and bearded face can be clearly seen at the base of the trunk on the right hand side…

Can you see what I saw? …look at his big heavy brow and beard touching the ground as he wathces over the bodies of the “Standing People” now fallen to the ground…

I always talked to those Big River Gums ….they were a part of my life for such a long time…and today I heard them speak back to me as I sat there at the graveside of some very dear old friends…….

Sometimes it is good to go back to places we swore we would never visit again because even amongst the sadness and memories there is beauty to be found if our eyes are open……

The ART of ACTION in Creative AttrACTION…

Posted by carolom on February 17, 2007

Thinking about what we sew and what we reap as a result of what we Think, Say……and do…

As within Sew without…

I have been sharing some of the Art work we are creating as part of our Art of Change ~ Empowerment group and I took a few photos of the visual Art~record book that I am keeping through out our year long, once a month group.
I am very grateful to my good friend Deanna (Nungala) for partnering in this process and bringing her unique Magic! to the Vision.
I believe that part of the ACTION in AttrACTION is about getting Creative and the Vision board is just a small part of how we can CREATE our own personal ‘sacred objects’ as a fun, engaging and highly charged Magnet of Intent in the manifestation process.

How long is it since you allowed yourself to play with pencils, textas, scissors, cardboard drawing and IMAGINATION
These 2 images represent our first weeks discussion and “Heart of Gold- Heart of Goals” exercise.

The image signifies that we create our ‘pot of Gold’ by clearly stating our Intent and bringing passion, vision, imagination and ACTION into our life…

We looked at how much our body ‘wears’ the impact of not only stress…but the ‘language of stress”…things like “it’s a pain in the neck’….’she makes me sick to my stomach’…on and on the list goes.

In order to learn how to develop our ‘attraction  skills…..it is important to treat our Self  with great Respect and care.
In the second image little ‘Suzy’ went from being a Magical Child with big dreams and imaginings at 5 years old …to a 30-something woman now living an anxious, fearful life….What made her that way?……Check out the dozens of limiting beliefs and negative projections that she inherited through out her growing years….

You can read more about “The Magical Child in Exile” here:

The story of how we lose the natural state of our Childhood Magic…and that it is never too late to find it again….

We created a “Money DOES grow on Trees” PropseriTree in order to become comfortable with the sight and feel and presence of Money, as part of the raising the expectation~vibrations when moving from poverty to Prosperity Consciousness….

This week our ART of the piece was the “Your Word is Your Wand” and “We are all Magnets” ….created with the Intent to heighten our awareness of the nature of Energy, Vibration and Intention..
This is the blank copy that I created whilst sitting under the most magnificent Gum-tree full of wonderful Spirits (more on that in the next blog)……you can also see a couple of the works in progress …

Here are some the the Artist~Creators with their “You Word is your Wand” pieces….
Wonderful Women who are beginning to share some amazing insights and ‘ah~ha!!’ moments as we study concepts such as  “If it is to be it is up to me” principles for creating peace, health, prosperity  and happiness in order to transcend the issues of marginalsiation facing Aboriginal Australia.

Cloud Reading….

Posted by carolom on January 18, 2007

I am a cloud reader …it’s a bit like reading tea leaves only you can’t dunk…..
True to the Law of Attraction’s Focus + energy = Creation, I find that so often that the skies are a blue canvas of swirling pictures and images and connecting with them can be a moment of Insight and Instruction when we least expect it…and if you really BELIEVE you can align with the whirling swirling cloud currents, you can ‘think’ shapes into being. Really!

A few months ago I arranged to meet my Mother in the Zen Garden in the city…a peaceful traditional Garden complete with tea house and meditation lake, Sand-Mandala yard and sit-down spots for picnics and pleasantries.
After we finished our cup of tea on the lawn we lay on the grass gazing at the moving sky…seeing faces and sybmbols, hearts and enjoying being in one anothers company.
The older we get the more I realise how lucky I am to have my family still all here and parents who have their health.

All of a sudden….seemingly from nowhere a huge cloud appeared from over the hills…as clearly as seeing one another it was the head of a traditional Aboriginal men with a heavy set brow, full beard and very strong profile.
We gazed in awe as this resplendant figure drifted overhead, remaining in tact and unchanging for seconds longer than clouds usually do as they morph in the sky winds in and out of form.

I didn’t have the camera with us that day…somethings are just meant to be a picture in the Memory album…

I also know that we attract what we focus on…“Where concentration goes energy flows”.

I am always ever mindful we are living and creating on traditional Aboriginal Land and in that place of gratitiude and recognition I see many wonderful things of the Spirit of this land of the Kaurna people.

Last year Sal and I were travelling through the Flinders Ranges….magnificent stone and mountain range country…and I saw a HUGE cloud spirit in the sky with a profile that looked as if it was creating wind currents…..big fluffy cheeks puffing through the air.

This photo didn’t quite capture the huge round cheeks, pursed lips and peaceful countenance but if you look closely on the left hand top side…you can see the profile of this puff-cheeked Spirit in the Sky…
(Turn your head slightly to your right side to view the image as it is on an angle…put your eyes into ‘soft focus’ as it maynot appear if you look too hard…;).)

I am also very appreciative and observant of the Spiritual presence that is found through out nature and see Rock Faces and many delightful images everywhere where nature grows.

The following image is of what I call the Mountain Range Goddess of the Northern Flinders Ranges…

Can you see her?

No?

What about if I turn Her on Her side?

It is so easy to spend our time looking at the clock, the computer, the road we are driving on, the book in front of us… surrounded by plastic no-can-smell-the-Roses….;)

I can guarantee you that if you have not tried Cloud Reading or Rock Muse~ic….there is a Universe of Mystical Beings just waiting for you to catch their eye…….;)

Those Cloud Spirits have even been known to bring out the trumpets once they know they finally have our attention…..
